Dear Editor,
This is in response to the letter issued by LRSO Yupia and published in this daily on January 24. After the clarification I have come to know that the compensation on the building structure coming under ROW and corridor of impact was done as per the actual effect/percentage of effect on the structure. I was completely unaware of such things earlier. My intention of writing letter in this daily on January 21was not to defame the good image of LRSO in the society. But my emotion was on the amount which the PWD prepared was thought to be final.
Now I am fully aware and understood the matter after the clarification. I am sincerely tendering my apology to the LRSO and his family members, relatives and his dear and near ones for hurting their sentiment by writing letter through media on Jan 21.

Mamang Dai conferred Padma Shri
ITANAGAR, Jan 25: Noted journalist, author Mamang Dai has been conferred with prestigious Padma Shri Award in recognition of her remarkable contributions in the field of literature and education.
A former member of the Indian Administrative Service she left the service to pursue a career in writing, traveled extensively and has numerous articles, poems and short stories published in various journals. She is also the author of Arunachal Pradesh – The Hidden Land and the recipient of the state’s first annual Verrier Elwin Award, 2003 for the book. Mamang Dai is one of the most intensely poetic new voices from the North East. The enthusiastic reception of her first collection of poems River Poems has rightly acknowledged her importance as a significant new poet in the count.
She is associated with major English Dailies from North East and other parts of the country.
She is among the 84 personalities from different fields who were chosen for the Padma Sri Awards.
This year, the President has approved 128 awards. These comprise 13 Padma Vibhushan, 31 Padma Bhushan and 84 Padma Shri Awards. There are 31 ladies among the awardees.
When contacted, Dai who is on way to Delhi from Jaipur said, I am very very happy. I am overwhelmed with joy as the congratulatory messages are pouring in after announcement of the prestigious award.
She further said, I dedicated the award to the people of Arunachal Pradesh in particular and North East in general for their overwhelming support in my journey to the literary field. This honour belongs to people of Arunachal Pradesh, she added. “I get inspiration from people and it would not have been possible to receive such a prestigious award without the help and support of people of the North East, she said.

ITANAGAR, Jan 25: PWD and UD Minister Nabam Tuki yesterday flag off an ambulance for the workers of Sagalee at Parang in presence of MLA Techi Kaso, MLA Karya Bagang MLA Nabam Rebia, APB&OCWWB Secretary Ojing Darung, DC Papum Pare Pige Ligu, ADC Sagalee, DDSE Papum Pare District TT Tara, PRI leaders, GBs, Workers, Public and students.
The ambulance was provided by Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board as per assurance given by its Chairman Jalley Sonam during the last awareness campaign held at Sagalee.
Meanwhile, the Minister lauded Sonam for providing an ambulance to workers and advised the workers and the people of Sagalee area to make good use of the ambulance.
Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board Chairman Jalley Sonam while, briefing about the ambulance informed that as per earlier assurance during the board awareness campaign today the board is handing over the ambulance for the workers of Sagalee area to be use by workers during medical emergencies.
He advised the workers to devote in their duties and cooperate with the government.
It is worth mentioning that under the chairmanship of Jalley Sonam and its Secretary cum Labour Commissioner Ojing Darung, APB&OCWW Board has conducted board and labour awareness campaign in almost all district of the state. During their campaign, the officials of the board appealed all the work HODs to deposit 1% cess to the board and also urged the workers to register their name in the board to avail labour benefits provided by the board.
Further, besides launching of ambulance yesterday under the labour benefit scheme, the board has distributed medical assistance of Rs 5000, death benefits of Rs. 50,000, free exercise book and scholarship to children of registered worker and also providing funeral, maternity, and tools advance assistance to workers.

Former MP urges Centre to reconsider decision on stapled visa
ITANAGAR, Jan 25: The recent decision of the Chinese Government to issue stapled Visas to the people of Arunachal Pradesh is a very significant step relating to the diplomatic relations between India and China, said former MP Kiren Rijiju.
In a letter to Union Minister for External Affairs S M Krishna, the former MP said the decision of the Govt. of India to deny the visit of two Arunachalees to China by rejecting the stapled visa is not a wise decision. “Although we demand normal visa to be issued but by not recognizing the stapled visa on Arunachal Pradesh our position has been pushed back to the previous status where China has rejected visa altogether, Rijiju said while adding that ‘we have missed an opportunity to augment our position by taking advantage on the Chinese concede’. Rijiju observed that the Chinese decision is a marked departure from claiming Arunachal Pradesh as Chiness territory to treat it as disputed territory. thereby inching closer to treat it as Indian territory. They had hardened the stand on Jammu and Kashmir and softened on Arunachal by treating the two states at par in stapled visa category, Rijiju said and added that ‘this was an opportunity to make the people of Arunachal visit China and demonstrate clearly that we are Indian citizens by all means and nothing can alter it. There is every likely hood that the border problem will drag on forever and Arunachalees can never visit China, Rijiju said. He further said that a serious thought must be given to mitigate the burning problems ‘as we feel suffocated due to the repeated Chinese claims on our territory but the patriotic fervor of Arunachalees will ensure to counter their groundless clam’.

Eviction drive may disrupt water supply in Capital
ITANAGAR, Jan 25: Regular water supply to various sectors in Capital Complex is likely to be disrupted following complete damage to the water supply distribution networks during mass eviction drives carried out by the district administration for construction of model roads, according to departmental release.
This problem will be continued till sufficient fund is earmarked for restoration of the damaged water supply pipe lines, the release said, adding that the department concerned will make all efforts to provide drinking water to the residents of affected areas through water tankers, the release added.
ATNS adds: Meanwhile, an affected residents while describing the hardship faced by him due to scarcity of water told ATNS that the department concerned should repair the private (individual) water supply connections by any means at the earliest.
Fire accident at Pachin and Palin
ITANAGAR, Jan 25: Four houses along with worth of properties were completely gutted down in a fire accident at around 2 am at Pachin Colony, Naharlagun today.
Panchin Welfare Committee appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to visit the spot and compensate the victims of the fire accident.
It further said that due to lack of proper road maintenance by the concerned department, the fire service vehicle could not reach the spot in time. Pachin Youth Association also appealed to the local MLA to provide immediate relief to the victims.
In another fire accident at Palin, one SPT house and three OBT houses and properties were gutted at around 10.30 am today.
However, no causality was reports from the incidents.
What’s the use of celebrating Republic Day?

ITANAGAR, Jan 25: By the time this article hit the newspaper stand, whole state along with rest of country must be celebrating 62nd Republic Day. Being part of Indian union, state of Arunachal and her people always took lot of pride in joining rest of the country in celebrating the Republic Day.
But present situation of Arunachal makes us wonder whether celebrating Republic Day has any significance to ordinary citizens of this state? At the time when people of Anini are going through worst situation for a long period with no road connectivity and no basic amenities, does it make sense for people like us living in comfort of the capital to indulge in pompous celebration?
There are many villages in Arunachal where there is still no road connectivity and no electricity. Those innocent villagers do not understand till date what it is to be part of this new developing India. They walk on foot for two or three days just to reach the nearest health centre to get treatment. There are districts where ordinary citizens are being terrorized by underground elements but authorities instead of getting tough with them harass poor civilian.
In many areas people are protesting against construction of dams as they do not want to part away with their traditional land. However state government and hydro power developers are ruthlessly crushing all form of protests and imposing their decision on the people.
Like these, there are many more reasons which force us to think whether we should celebrate Republic Day or for that matter any other national holiday, when in one corner of state our own people have been suffering and living a miserable life.

Being an Indian, we all are suppose to join nation in celebrating 62nd Republic day on 26th January. But this journalist’s soul does not allow him to celebrate this Republic Day because of the suffering felt by people of Anini. It does not make sense to be in celebration mood when our own people are living under utter poverty and in difficult condition in interior parts of Arunachal. As an ordinary layman without any power, this journalist only wish to boycott all official functions of Republic Day as mark of protest against state and central government’s indifferent attitude towards poor people of Arunachal. This is the only way I could see as means of protest and I hope government won’t book me under National Security Act for such protest.
Solar light delights villagers
ITANAGAR, Jan 25: Gichi Lomdak, the remotest village under Puchi Geku circle of Upper Subansiri district has been electrified through solar home lighting system. This was possible only due to initiative of T Muri, information and publicity officer, APEDA, who along with his team installed the solar lighting system at all the 12 houses of the village on January 12 last, according to an APEDA release.
The team halted for a night in the village to observe the functioning of the devices.

DLTDC meet on prospect of tourism in U/Subansiri
DAPORIJO, Jan 25: A meeting of the District Level Tourism Development Committee (DLTDC) of Upper Subansiri district was held at the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman DLTDC A. Abhayankar on Jan 24 to discuss the prospects and potential of tourism in the district.
Abhayankar said that Upper Subansiri has immense potential for adventure tourism, eco tourism, rural tourism. The DC also commented on the tourism infrastructure development and said that care should be taken to maintain quality in all tourism projects so as to provide high standard facilities to tourist. He also stressed on the need for all tourism infrastructure proposals to be first approved by the DLTDC.

RHEP, NEEPCO Ltd taken up welfare works
ITANAGAR, Jan 25: Ranganadi HEP, NEEPCO Ltd as part of its welfare works handed over financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 each to the Rikam Pada Cultural Group of Pitapool village, Poosa village and Potin village yesterday.
The Company has also donated sports equipments and goods to the Govt. Higher Secondary School, Yazali, the Govt. Secondary School, Pitapool, the Govt. Middle School, Hoj and the Abotani Academy, Peni to promote sporting activities of the students.

Review meeting on TDF projects held
ITANAGAR, Jan 25: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra Papum Pare organized a review cum interface meeting on projects under tribal development fund being implemented by KVK and sponsored by NABARD Itanagar.
The NABARD, NGO (NNCS) and farmer representative of the projects area were also involved in the meeting held under the banner of Rangt Rango Lagab for reviewing the half yearly progress of the TDF project at KVK office Nirjuly on January 21.
The TDF project report was presented by Dr. Nabam Gama (Farm Manager) through the power point presentation where he highlighted the constraints faced during the implementation of the project. The NNCS Coordinator informed the house that the mind set of the farmers are changing and assured the success of the project in long run.
Dr. B. G. Mukhopadhyay, GM, NABARD expressed his satisfaction about the project progress and urged KVK and NNCS to work hand in hand. He also stated that it is a unique PPP mode of community based livelihood improvement project. In the meeting project management committee was also formed with involvement of all the stakeholders of the project for its success.
A TDF vehicle was flagged off at the end of the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Joint Director A.H & Veterinary.

ITANAGAR, Jan 25: Capital Students’ Union taking concerned over the environment pollution in the state capital said that though the union is not against the developmental activities being carrying out in the state capital, the union is strongly opposing the developmental activities which are creating health hazard in the city.
It expressing surprise over the ongoing developmental activities like Bus and Truck terminal, hot mixture plans, SMS smelters in the state capital said that before setting up of such plants, proper measures should be taken into consideration in the congested state capital.
It further said that almost all such plants and units are running and going to come up in between model village and Lekhi village and the people of these areas are suffering from pollution.
It appealed the state government along with State Pollution Control Board to find out a suitable site at outskirt of the capital complex and also appealed to the Panchayat leaders of the respective area to take up immediate steps against such highly polluted mission.
Changlang DRDA vigilance committee meet held
CHANGLANG, Jan 25: The District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting of DRDA, Changlang District was held on January 24 at Circuit House Changlang.
J.Jugli, Chairperson Changlang Zilla Parishad who presided over the meeting stressed on convening periodical meeting with Anchal Chairpersons, ZPMs, and BDOs, to chalk out proper strategy and prepare schemes on poverty alleviation programmes and other Rural Area Development schemes.
She, appealed BDOs to avoid misunderstanding and maintained transparency. They should consult with the PRI members on various issues towards successful achievement of schemes. The ZP chairperson disclosed that she would conduct an extensive tour throughout Changlang district in the month of February next to personally see the implementation of development schemes.
P. Khumhun, MLA Parliamentary Secretary, Geology and Mining, expressed dissatisfaction over the funding system of central Government on population basis. It is difficult to achieve the desired target in a state like Arunachal Pradesh with its tough terrain and heavy transportation cost.
Khimhun, further said there should not be any compromise with the quality of works. The main objective should be physical achievement of schemes on various Rural Developmental Activities, he said and appealed the Deputy Commissioner, Changlang to convene a meeting with all five MLAs of this District to discuss developmental matter so that real benefit reaches to the Rural poor people.
Opak Gao, Deputy Commissioner, called upon the implementing agencies to put forward optimistic suggestions for proper execution of schemes and create full confidence with PRI members to overcome all hurdles that may come on way of implementation of schemes. He stressed on old age pension schemes, directed ICDS and Anganwadi workers not to be confined to their office, should visit villages to find out deprived and genuine persons to avail the old age pension schemes.
Gao, cautioned that drastic action would be taken to the defaulters and negligence on duties and responsibilities, so, one have to be resourceful and carry out the assigned task whole heartedly.
T.Ngume, former Minister, suggested various corrective measures on RD Schemes and functioning system. He said in democratic set up the people have right to know on developmental activities. So, officers and PRI member should deliver their services honestly and sincerity. DIPRO

ITANAGAR, Jan 25: The Department of School Education (DSE) will conduct the First State Level School Games from February One to Five at SAI SAG centre Naharlagun and Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy.

ITANAGAR, Jan 25: R.K.Mossang Memorial Society, Jairampur (NGO) has conducted an awareness campaign on Gender Sensitization to commemorate, the Girl Child Day’ 2011 in the Campus of Elementary Residential School (Girls), New Khamdu.
Speaking on the occasion, Arunachal Pradesh State Women Commission, Chairperson who is also the chairperson of R.K. Mossang Memorial Society, Jairampur, Komoli Mossang briefed about the importance of girls education for the speedy growth and development of the society. Nyedar Namlo raising day
ITANAGAR, Jan 25: The 11th raising day of Nyedar Namlo will be celebrated by all Nyedar Namlo committees on January 27. The executive council of central nyedar namlo appealed to all like minded individual and organization to extend all possible assistance to the local organizing committees for smooth conduct of the programme.
Meanwhile, the members of central nyedar namlo, Doimukh condoled the sudden demise of veteran politician and social worker Malo Tarin.
"His premature death has caused an irreparable loss to the state as well as the Nyishi community," central nyedar namlo said in a release.
They conveyed their deepest sense of condolence to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss and also prayed to Aane Donyi for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Meanwhile, Central Nyokum Committee, Nirjuli expressed shock over sudden demise of Tarin. The advisory board and executive body of CNC in a condolence meeting observed two minutes silence to pay homage and pray the almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give enough strength and courage to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
The CNC also conveyed its heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members.
Dance competition
ITANAGAR, Jan 25: Binamlu Mepong and party won the district level dancing competition
held at Tezu from January 15-

Union demands more ATM counter
ITANAGAR, Jan 25: All East Siang District Students’ Union (AESDSU) demanded the authorities concerned to open two more ATM counter at Mirmir Tinali and Medical Complex for easy monetary transaction.
AESDSU, in a release, said that the existing two ATM in the district headquarters do not work for 24 hours for which people coming from fur flung areas have to face problem to draw their money in the time of need.
Arunachal players win medals
ITANAGAR, Jan 25: Two wushu players from Arunachal Pradesh won three medals in the 3rd North East Invitational Wushu Championship held at Kakching, Manipur from January 16 to 18 last.
While Kishen Chetia bagged two gold in Toulu event of Chanchen and Gunchu a silver medal was won by Mama Makcha in Sanshou (fight) in below 20 kg weight category.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Wushu Association president Toko Teki congratulated both the players for winning medals.

Contain animal disease
ITANAGAR : Atleast 30 Mithun were reportedly killed due to sudden occurrence of infectious disease in the animal at Jote village under Sangdupota circle of Papum Pare district, informed All Papum Poma Students’ Union (APPSU).
APPSU, meanwhile, urged the authorities concerned to take immediate measures to contain the disease before spreading to other areas of the district.
